Drupal ist ein Content-Management-System mit dem sich Inhalte ins Internet stellen und einfach bearbeiten lassen. Die Open Source-Software unterscheidet sich von anderen CMS vor allem durch die Umsetzung von Ansätzen einer Social Software. Drupal unterstützt den Aufbau von Communities, die gemeinsam an Inhalten arbeiten und sich über Themen austauschen und informieren wollen. So können Nutzer beispielsweise eigene Weblogs anlegen, sich in Foren austauschen oder Artikel veröffentlichen.

OpenID ist ab der Drupal Version 6.0 in das Core-System integriert und muss nicht mehr per Plugin nachgeladen werden:

We are proud to present the third release candidate of Drupal 6.0. We hope that this will be the final release candidate before we can make an official release of Drupal 6.0. Since the second release candidate, we have fixed various issues including JavaScript performance problems, cleaned up menu updates, added several improvements to the update.module, and added a memory requirements check to update.php. We have even added some small usability improvements since RC2.
